Welcome to the Time of the Dark
When we seek to empty our minds
Of Life’s busyness and the dazzle that
Leave little room for introspection.
Welcome to this Month of Silence
And Expansive Skies filled with Stars.
Welcome to cold Winter Silence that you
Somehow suspect could be filled with
A host of Angels, promising that
We can be better than we are. In
Those short Daylight hours you may
Encounter out-of-season Doves carrying
Laurels, carrying Hearts, carrying Peace.
You and I with all our Neighbors, making Peace.

Peacemaking Around the Thanksgiving Table

As a Peacemaker I ask, what might a Peacemaker’s Thanksgiving be like? Ideally it would be filled with Peace, awareness, abundance, gratitude, sharing, and thanksgiving. A Peacemaker’s Thanksgiving begins with acknowledging that Peace is your goal and that this is precisely the holiday to begin incorporating Peace into your everyday actions. Thanksgiving provides an opportunity to invite others into Peacemaking through the following steps.

Today I sat at Panera with a friend who is part of my personal Board of Directors, talking about what have always seemed like competing desires: to do my Peacemaking, Thealogy¹, and Writing — whether poetry or prose — and to make a generous living so I can do more Peacemaking, Thealogy, and Writing — all while paying my mortgage.

The other day in the Emergency Department, there was a horrible trauma. Of course, there was. That’s what we do there. It was a weekend. People had places to go. They were in a hurry. Things went wrong. And it got complicated at the hospital as well.
